SM MALL OF ASIA

When SM Mall of Asia opened last May 21, 2006, I was excited to see the place as it was reported to be the largest shopping mall in the Philippines, and the third largest shopping mall in the world in terms of gross floor size.

Finally last Sunday hb and I went to SM MALL OF ASIA.

The Mall of Asia is a two-story building located within the reclamation area, west of Roxas Boulevard in Pasay City aptly called "Bay City". It is built on 19.5 hectares of reclaimed land and has a gross leasable area of 4.2 million square feet.

I immediately noticed a huge bronze globe similar to Universal Studios built in front of the shopping mall. The mall consists of four buildings interconnected by walkways:
1.) The Main Mall - contains shopping and dining establishments, a food court and the country's first Olympic sized ice-skating rink.
2.) The Entertainment Mall - offers a spectacular view of Manila Bay and houses cinemas
3.) North Park building - SM Hypermarket and more dining areas can be found.
4.) South Car Park Building - houses SM department store and half of the mall's 5,000 parking slots.

There's a non air-conditioned area of the mall. A seaside view deck can be found at the end of the blue pedestrian walkway.

One of the main attractions of the mall is the first ever IMAX Theater in the Philippines with a screen that is roughly eight stories high. Prices vary with the movies they are showing which is triple than a normal theater rate.

Aside from IMAX Theater there’s also a Director's Club Theater for intimate screenings (30 La-Z Boy seats), a Premiere Cinema, and six regular cinemas.

It’s a good thing there’s another new shopping mall built conveniently located here in Manila. It's an additional varied shopping and dining options for visitors.
