KA LUI RESTAURANT

After a little afternoon nap we were a bit hungry and so we decided to go to Ka Lui Restaurant for dinner. We showed up early around 6:30 without reservation, but they still managed to accommodate us. We took off our shoes before stepping onto the seating area. This is required for all diners.

Ka Lui is an unpretentious gourmet restaurant with inexpensive food offerings. It has a native style made of wood and bamboo with a charming open-air garden ambiance. Motif looks like a Hawaiian with Filipino touch. They serves only seafood, fresh vegetables and fruits.

We chose the "Special of the Day" (Php 395.00), which was already good for two. Our dishes includes Halaan (Clam) soup, "vegetable of the day" Lato (seawood) and Atchara (pickled papaya strips), Steak Tuna, Stuffed Squid, Fried Fish, Steamed Prawns and rice.

We also had fresh fruit dessert topped with muscovado sugar placed in a half coconut shell bowl. My hubby enjoyed the clam soup, which has a soft ginger flavor with just a bit of a spicy kick to it. Everything was perfectly cooked. Though I was expecting to feel hungry after all those tiny dishes, but I was wrong, I was actually more than satisfied. It was flavorful and filling without being heavy.

For beverage, I ordered Buko shake with lots of tiny morsels of tender buko meat, which was definitely the best shake I've ever had. It was oh-so-delicious, creamy and refreshing. Not too sweet, just perfect!

The entire experience was wonderful. It was one of the most memorable gourmet experiences I had on this trip and I couldn't praise it enough. The restroom was clean, well-maintained with a home appeal to it.

I can give this place a solid 5 stars for serving the best fresh, home cooked food and very reasonably priced meal. This kind of dish would probably run you Php 700.00 to Php 1,000.00 here in Manila. We look forward to returning and dining there again.

The only downside mosquitoes were everywhere. But you could ask for a mosquito coil or just focus the electric fan to your side.

Ka Lui is open daily except on Sundays. Lunchtime from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. Dinnertime from 6:00 to 11:00 pm. You should book in advance as the restaurant is very popular.
