People do not generally come around in Vung Tau unless they're in the area to see some specific places. The attractions here are far away from each other. Thank goodness, driving around the area with a rented car saves time and is more convenient than probably being crammed in on a bus. (Watch the video below!)

Our main reason for going to Vung Tau is to see the statue of Christ the King at the Pilgrimage Center of Jesus Christ - The King Monument, Tau Phung Mount. I'm curious to see what it looks like because I read that it is similar to the Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

We walked through the gate to the complex, not knowing what to expect. To make the story short, climbing to the top is strenuous, especially for the not "athletic type" just like me. I can't even count the number of times I stopped climbing a flight of stairs sweating profusely and severely out of breath. But, there are rest areas you can stay around before continuing your adventure to the top, and it has some religious statues and carvings, and beautiful sea views along the way.

As I came around at the end of the 811 stairs, drenched with sweat, I found myself staring at the towering statue of Jesus with outstretched arms in front of me. It feels like welcoming me after doing my penitential act.



The place imposes strict dress code, so please wear proper attire if you want to climb to the shoulder of the statue. It's rarely crowded because it's not directly accessible via public transportation unless group tours or students visiting the area. Remember to bring a bottle of water and be prepared to pace yourself for climbing the stairway to heaven! Free admission.
